Privacy Policy
Effective date: June 2026
Disconnect is developed and operated by Bytehood Ltd ("we", "us", "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
What data we collect
Account data
When you sign in with Apple, we receive your name and email address (Apple only shares these on the first sign-in). We store your display name in our database to identify you to your buddy and in notifications. Your Apple ID is used to authenticate you — we never see your Apple ID password.
Usage data
We store the following to operate the buddy accountability system:
- Your buddy relationships (who you have paired with)
- Unlock requests you send or receive — including the rule name and any optional reason you write
- Push notification tokens so we can deliver time-sensitive notifications to your device
What we do not collect
- Which apps you choose to block — this data never leaves your device
- Your blocking schedule — stored locally only
- Any Screen Time or usage statistics
- Your location
How we use your data
We use your data only to operate Disconnect:
- To route buddy invitations and unlock requests between you and your buddy
- To deliver push notifications when your buddy approves or denies a request
- To identify you by name in notifications and in-app screens
We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising. We do not share your data with third parties except as described below.
Third parties
Firebase (Google)
We use Firebase for authentication, database storage, and push notifications. Firebase is operated by Google LLC. Data is processed in accordance with Google's privacy policy.
RevenueCat
We use RevenueCat to manage Pro subscriptions. RevenueCat receives your anonymised user ID and purchase history to verify your subscription status. RevenueCat's privacy policy applies to this data.
Apple
Purchases are processed by Apple via the App Store. Apple's privacy policy governs payment data — we never see your payment details.
Data retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we permanently delete all data associated with your account within 30 days, including your user record, buddy relationships, and unlock request history.
Your rights
As a user you have the right to:
- Access the data we hold about you
- Delete your account and all associated data — available directly in the app under Settings → Delete account
- Object to or restrict processing of your data
- Port your data to another service
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@bytehood.com.
If you are in the UK or EU, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in the UK: the ICO at ico.org.uk).
Children
Disconnect is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us at support@bytehood.com and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via the app or by email. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
